I have been looking all over for these numbers. Does anybody know what I need to set for the Horiztonal and Vertical sync rates in my xorg.conf? I'm running a 400Mhz Powerbook G3.

emerge Xorgautoconfig and use that instead. I'd recommend using the ~ppc version if possible, I can't mark it stable yet because it hasn't been 30 days, but it should work a little bit better.

Erm...I've tried using the auto-config programs and none of them seem to get it right either. I just end up with a bunch of blue lines on my screen. Is this one any different?

Edit: Well running it seems to have gotten me farther along, but the server won't stay running. Xorgautoconfig wants to use fbdev as my graphics card setting, but this Powerbook has an ATI Rage LT Pro. I'm not sure which card category that falls into, but I've got Rage128 support compiled into the kernel. Am I missing anything else?

The error I get is

(EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOPAN_DISPLAY: Invalid argument

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting

Like I said, use the ~ppc version of Xorgautoconfig, it fixes a bug with some older cards that prevents them from being detected. Your card is a Mach64, not a Rage128.

k, well I've emerged the ~ppc version, but I guess I've gotta install the correct driver before it'll detect anything, so that's what I'll do.

Okay, I can launch an X-Server and it stays up, but I can't seem to launch any xterms. The log says that several font path elements couldn't be initialized:
/usr/share/fonts/util
" "/default
" "/local
" "/encoding

Well, the directories are there, and there seem to be fonts in them. I'm not really sure what to do other than re-emerging my fonts, and it looks like util and encoding are both masked.
