PostPosted: Thu Feb 02, 2006 3:18 pm    Post subject: PB 15'' - FN key, <> and \|, trackpad tapping - 2.6.16 Reply with quote

Hi,

with kernel 2.6.14 i've applied the FN patch and the FN key work, but with 2.6.15 i try to apply the patch for 2.6.14, and doesn't work... (on powerbook 15 inch 5.6 1,67 Ghz).

Anyone have a modified patch for 2.6.15?

Other question, the Key <> and |\ is swapped on my keyboard, anyone have a trick to fix this?

Other question, i have the left command key function like alt gr.. Is possible to assign right command key in place of the left command key?

Last question, is possible to disable the tap on apple trackpad? I've insert the setting to ppbuttonsd.conf but nothing has changed... I've Synaptics driver loaded on xorg, i changed a lot of options, but the tap is active and trackpad doesn't work very good (very little precise)..

I need help.. :oops:

Use the vanilla 2.6.16_rc releases, they already contain all of the required patches for proper fn key behaviour.

Can you get 2.6.16_rc to boot? mine hangs right at the beginning of booting with the updated working config from 2.6.15 8O

@atomik: for the trackpad you can put an option of notap I think it is, although just check in the man file for synaptics.

Ok, i've found the synaptics option to insert in xorg.conf..

someone have any idea to correct other issue?

1)the Key <> and |\ is swapped on my keyboard
2)assign right command key in place of the left command key like alt gr (i need this to write @, becouse i've italian keyboard..)

Other solutions for FN key? (on 2.6.16 series softmac and other things i think that not work correctly)...

Softmac works fine on 2.6.16, and yes, 2.6.16 boots fine on my PB G4 500, where does it hang for you?

Sounds like a framebuffer issue. Make sure your framebuffer driver is built in, or try with the OF driver instead.

Yeh, that was my thought too, being it hangs so early, but the OF driver is built in and has been working perfectly up to now 8O

Tried 2.6.16_rc2 as well and its the same there ...

Do you know if vesa-tng works on ppc? google is not forthcoming.

No, VESA is an x86 only option, same with VGA. (It operates through the BIOS, which ppc doesn't have).

It would be helpful to know what kind of hardware you've got and what you've tried.

Sig gives a little ;) but ok, I have a Powerbook 5,6 15¨ with radeon ATI 9600/9700 card.

Not tried alot as yet .. except disabling the framebuffer, with the same result.

Will try a few other things later in the weekend ... any first things to try would be helpful ;)

You should not be using the OF driver if possible, use the Radeon FB driver instead.

Sound is currently broken with the 2.6.16-rc snapshots due to an i2c reworking:

Ok, the 2.6.16-rc2 is out, but the bcm43xx snapshot is only for 2.6.16-rc1...

The actual situations:

1) with 2.6.15 airport extreme works, audio card works, but FN key doesn't work

2) with 2.6.16-rc1 airport extreme works, audio card doesn't work and FN key would work

3) with 2.6.16-rc2 audio cards would work, FN key would work, and airport extreme doesn't work (the patch is for RC1..)

:twisted:

You need the latest version of pbbuttonsd (0.7.4) with the newest powerbooks.

I've 0.7.4, the problem was:

NoTapTyping Option in pbbuttonsd.conf

If set this to no, i resolv some issue.

Now, ejecting dvd issue remain, but FN key now is ok.

This is my pbbuttonsd.conf:

Code:

I've add the code below to /usr/share/keymap/i386/qwerty to map on Italian Keyboard The second return key to delete, and swap <> and \| (thanks to Silian87) but the swap doesn't work for me.
This is the code added to it.map:

Code:

keycode 125 = AltGr
keycode  41 = less             greater
        alt     keycode  41 = Meta_less
        shift alt keycode 41 = Meta_greater
keycode  41 = backslash        bar
        control keycode  86 = Control_backslash
        alt     keycode  86 = Meta_backslash
        shift alt keycode 86 = Meta_bar
keycode 96 = Delete

The keycode for \| is 86 (i've tested this with showkey).

Also, i've follow a guide for installl gentoo on alluminium powerbook (add some code to /etc/X11/xkb/keycodes).

Finally, the problem are:
1) "<>" and "\|" swapped
2) eject key for cdrom doesn't work
3) after some time, the airport card disconnect from access point, [/code]and to reconnect to AP, i need to kill wpa_supplicant, shutting down eth1 and retry to do "ifconfig eth1 up", ifwconfig eth1 rate 54M", "wpa_supplicant -B -ieth1 -Dwext -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf" and "dhcpcd eth1". I've 2.6.16-rc2. with "bcm43xx-060212__forlinux2.6.16-rc2__.patch", wpa_supplicant 0.5.1

This is the wpa_supplicant.conf:
Code:
# WPA AES encryption
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
#eapol_version=1
network={
        ssid="MY_SSID"
        scan_ssid=1
        key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
        proto=WPA
        pairwise=TKIP
        group=TKIP
        psk="MY_PSK"
        priority=3
}

This is /etc/conf.d/net:

Code:

modules=( "wpa_supplicant" )
wpa_supplicant_eth1="-Dwext"
wpa_timeout_eth1=60

Have you any tips for some of this problem?
Excuse me for my terrible english :roll:
