I replaced hdd with more spacious one on my g3 ibook.
Now everything is fine but bootsplash.
When I used kernel 2.6.14 previously, it was fine.
But now i have some problem.
First, initrd doesn't work any more.
When i included splash information into the kernel image, it works.
However when i make a initrd image with splash_geninitramfs directly,
I encounter kernel panic.
After I had this problem, I upgrade splashutils, but in vain.
Without initrd, it boots successfully, but awhile i look at some text and then splash appears.

I don't mean to ignore your question, but as an attempt to help somehow, I would like to mention that you might want to consider splashutils rather than bootsplash. As far as I understand, splashutils is superior and support for bootsplash will be removed in the future. It might be a good time to switch. There are good wikis out there on this or check on Spock's page
Sorry if I can't help more.

That was kind of hard to follow, but I'll offer this advice, the easiest way to have a working bootsplash is with genkernel. If you want to tweak the kernel configuration, you can use the --menuconfig option to change the kernel configuration manually.
