So I was emerging a bunch of stuff, and along the way, it compiled a new version of gcc and told me how to update my system to use the new version, but I wasn't able to catch it in time before it started doing other things. Can someone tell the the (two, I think) commands that I need to type to get it to work?

I think you should first list the available profiles:

Code:
gcc-config -l

and then switch to the new profile according to its ID on the list:

Code:
gcc-config id

This is what I did if I recall correctly. Till now, works flawlessly.
