g4 ibook kernel panic waking from sleep
no usb devices were plugged when it was put to sleep
does not have AE

failed to set volume

That's a panic in the USB subsystem, which kernel version are you using? If you build your USB drivers modular (including the drivers for the USB ports themselves), and remove them before sleeping, this problem should go away.

using 2.6.14-gentoo-r2

it started after i upgraded everything anout 4 weeks ago.

my usb stuff is all modules, how to unload them and load them for sleep ?

Upgrade to 2.6.15 first, that has some more USB fixes.
