OK, smart as I am, I unmerged GCC 3.3 without first emerging sys-libs/libstdc++-v3. (I had upgraded to GCC 3.4, but had decided not to emerge 3.3 for a while, and therfore forgot I had to do that before unmerging) Problem is, now whenever I try to run emerge or anything else on python, I get something like this:
Code:
# emerge
/usr/bin/python: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Since I can't start emerge, I can't fix the mistake (not having emerged libstdc++-v3) OR install anything else. What should I do?

I'm not sure if it's the same, but while unmerging gcc 3.3 it seemed to run some script that supposedly fixed those, if it was the same, then it didn't help.

Anyway, I managed to cope with it, thanks to someone on #gentoo (I believe his nick was marzein, a big thank you to him/her), who gave me a link to a binary of libstdc++-v3, with which I got portage running.

Hi, dobysirius !
Try to create this symlink:
Code:
# ln -s /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.4/libstdc++.so.6 /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5
# emerge libstdc++-v3 (or "emerge python")
# rm /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5

and
Code:
# revdep-rebuild

Awesome. This saved my butt.

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads in favour of the new FAQ: Error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5.
