maybe this is really dumb. if it is, just tell me it is...

I know that ctrl-click is not supposed to work on the powerbooks and ibooks and I also know how to work around by using keys to emulate right and middle click.

Here's the thing. I just noticed that in mozilla-firefox (still 1.0.6; haven't had much time for gentoo recently) ctrl-clicking a link does what it is supposed to do - for me, it's open the link in a new tab. Now, does this mean that firefox running on linux can detect ctrl-click as middle click while linux itself can't?

am running 2.6.15-gentoo-r1

Feel free to write a driver that synthesizes the keyboard and mouse commands.

The way the current setup works, the mouse button emulation actually is a mouse device that sends right and middle clicks when keys are pressed on the keyboard. Since it's actually a seperate device, combining them is a lot harder than you make it sound. Firefox is just recieving events, so it can handle them whatever way it wants.
