...but I'm still beating my head off the wall on an "optimal" wireless configuration. Its mostly working in a monolithic state - that is, I have hard set it to my home wireless network, accepting everything from DHCP.

However!

I'm looking to go portable as I will be travelling soon and I'm curious if anyone here using Gentoo on an iBook or what not would care to share their wireless configuration with me. The only provision I need is that I need to be able to override the DNS server it uses. I've tried several settings, but whenever I try to use this, ethX fails to start:

dhcp_ethX="nodns"

And so on, if anyone wants to through out a sample configuration, go wild :D

/etc/conf.d/wireless lets you specify DNS servers for use when in wireless mode distinct from those specified in /etc/conf.d/net, so that should work.

As for being on the road, get familiar with iwlist and iwconfig and so on. You can easily obtain a list of access points using iwlist for instance, and then use iwconfig to connect. The man pages should be enough to let you figure it all out while sitting in the airport. They did for me.
