So i ordered one of these and it should be here pretty soon. I'm definately dual booting gentoo with it and would like to know what to set my makeopts too. it has 2 processors, but both are dual core. never installed linux on a dual core so i don't know how to go about optimizing thier performance. Also any other hints for a gentoo install on an apple. This will be my first apple computer in over 10 years, and that one was the first power mac and it was just a computer my dad had around the house, which I occasionally used when i was around 6ish. So i haven't extensively used mac os X. I've played with it because I use some workstations with it, but no configuration or anything. Just a little of os X86, no main computer running on it or anything. All advice would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe this question should go to PPC-forum, they might have more experience with it.

But I think you should try to find as much as possible of information about the situation before doing it, cause there might be some 'special' things you'd consider at installation. Like you can't use fdisk in partitioning and the bootloader stuff is different (at least with PPC) and there might be some other 'new' ways how Apple is trying to prevent people to do it.
You might even ruin your OSX installation so it's better to do it at the start, then you can always re-install it if something goes wrong (before you've worked with it and configure it the way you like)

But I'd also like to have one of those 8)

Most important first step will be to reinstall OS X (from teh boot DVD), repartitioning your drive to give enough free space on the end for your gentoo install.

After that you can either wait for the 2006.0 LiveCD (which should support the dual-core G5s) or you can attempt to build your own LiveCD on another machine using a cross-compiler and all kinds of fun :)
