two or three emerges i want to run simultaniously.
as one is compiling other will doenload most times.
will there be any error like data base locked ?
as my net speed is only 12k bytes /sec i want to save the download time.

You should be fine, the only issue you coudl run into is if you are emerging packages with similar dependencies.

emerge =portage-2.1_pre4-r1, then portage will download while it is emerging, if you add parallel-fetch to FEATURES in /etc/make.conf :)

or you can fetch them all, and emerge later
Code:

emerge -f <package>
emerge <package>

localhost ramaswamy # emerge =portage-2.1_pre4-r1
Calculating dependencies
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "=portage-2.1_pre4-r1" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- sys-apps/portage-2.1_pre4-r1 (masked by: ~x86 keyword)

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or
refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

localhost ramaswamy #

looks like i have to temporarily accept keyword x86 on command line
the accept key word ~86 can be turned off afterwords?
i need to accept for kde 3.5 .
thanks.
now i am emerging 2 3 emerges in 4 konsoles and firefox
running

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads.

See GF4: Can portage build one package while downloading others?
