Seeing as my last thread got moved to the Duplicate Threads forum :oops: , I looked everywhere I could to find an answer to the following question, but couldn't come up with anything specific enough, so I'm going to risk asking one last USE flag question. In a reply to my last thread, BlackEdder said

If a app really needs gtk it will use it anyway. Only if it is optional the use flag will make a difference.

Does that mean that if I used "-gtk -gtk2 -gnome" in my USE variable I wouldn't even have to write

Code:
USE="gtk gtk2" emerge appname

because if the program requires GTK it will automatically build it with GTK? If this is true, what if I used the following USE flags:

Code:
USE="-gtk -gnome gtk2 qt kde ..."

Am I correct in thinking that this would only build support for Qt when both are available and GTK is optional, but with an app that only has a GTK frontend, it will use the GTK2 library over the GTK 1.x if the program supports both? Or will the gtk2 flag cancel out the -gtk flag and build support for gtk in all apps anyway?

I am pretty confused on this so any help would be much appreciated :D
