I was attempting to upgrade Gnome to the latest version because I hadn't updated since I got Gentoo Linux on my computer. I've gotten most of the way, but this error message keeps coming up. I'm still elementary in skill with Linux, so don't get mad if I don't understand your advice, it just means I'm learning new things :D I will try my best to explain everything clearly.

Here's the message:
Code:
mkdir .libs
libtool: link: cannot find the library `/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.4/ libstdc++.la'
make[3]: *** [gnome-desktop-item-edit] Error 1

!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

GCC is currently on 3.4.4
Code:
[1] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.6
 [2] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.6-hardened
 [3] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.6-hardenednopie
 [4] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.6-hardenednopiessp
 [5] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.6-hardenednossp
 [6] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.4 *
 [7] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.4-hardened
 [8] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.4-hardenednopie
 [9] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.4-hardenednopiessp
 [10] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.4-hardenednossp

I'm not sure where to go from here. Can anyone help? Thanks

just run the following command:
Code:

fix_libtool_files.sh 3.3.4

It just fix the libraries that are linked with gcc 3.3.4

Thanks. I ended up just using a symbolic link to fool it and it actually worked. I did what you said as well, which probably did some good. Thanks, we'll call this on "solved"
