Thanks bz31 it is working perfectly for me now. The dscape branch did the trick. I appreciate all the help. I usually don't set my nics to start on bootup on my laptop but do you if there is anything wrong with copying the bcm-script to the conf.d/ along with the other rc files? If I wanted to have the script run along with other rc services how would I?

Thanks,
Nick

These are gentoo-specific, I don't use gentoo on my ibook. I read messages about airport extreme here because I learned how to use it here (via mol or bcm43xx) (JoseJX helped me much).

Just some remarks:
- I don't use the driver when I don't use the card. Thus I created a file /etc/hotplug/blacklist.d/airport containing a line
Code:
bcm43xx_d80211
to prevent udev from loading the driver.

- On my debian, I configure all in /etc/network/interfaces:
Code:
iface sta0 inet dhcp

  pre-up modprobe bcm43xx_d80211
  pre-up echo -n "sta0" > /sys/class/ieee80211/phy0/add_iface
  pre-up ifconfig wlan0.11 up
  pre-up ifconfig sta0 hw ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
  pre-up wpa_supplicant -Bw -Dwext -ista0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

  post-down modprobe -r bcm43xx_d80211
  post-down modprobe -r rate_control
  post-down killall wpa_supplicant
You can adapt them to gentoo.

- If problem with sleep/resume (using pbbuttonsd), add a script /etc/power/scripts.d/bcm and a symlink in /etc/power/event.d
Code:
. pmcs-config

case "$1" in
  suspend)
    if [ -e /proc/net/dev_snmp6/sta0 ]; then
      ifdown sta0
      touch /tmp/sta0
    fi
    ;;
  resume)
    if [ -e /tmp/sta0 ]; then
      ifup sta0
      rm /tmp/sta0
    fi
    ;;
esac
 (ifup and ifdown are debian specific)
