if you use emerge -pv kde-meta, it will show you what is installed and what is available.

Code:
emerge -epv world

And you´ll see a complete list of packages which are installed on your system.

Code:
less /var/lib/portage/world

Is similar to the command above..

If you search for software or need some help with use-flags or whatever try http://gentoo-portage.com or http://packages.gentoo.org for informations

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads in favour of the faq about it: GF3: How do I get a list of installed packages?.

Notice that the world file only covers a subset of the packages that are installed on your system (i.e. dependencies are not listed unless you emerged them explicitly).
