I'm using the GUI installer and when I have it all set up and click install, and the screen with log and output tabs pops up like it should. The Log tab says
-GLI: march 05 2006 18:09:21 - Setting root password
-GLI: march 05 2006 18:09:21 - Livecd root password set

And thats all it does. I let it sit for 2 hours and nothing seems to happen. There are two grey bars at the bottom, one that says working and the other says preparing. The CD drive isn't accessed, the hard drive light doesn't come on. I can play around in the desktop and access everything from the liveCD with no slow down, which i would assume there should be if the installer was doing something. My network is not working yet. Could this have anything to do with it? I have an asus a7n8x-x mobo which has the nforce 2 chipset. From what I've read the network drivers for it don't come on the liveCD.
Has anyone else had this problem or know what i'm doing wrong?

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I've never used the GLI, but from what I've read in this forum, you should say that the network is configured or the installer won't move forward. Sorry for not being clearer, but since I've never used the installer, I can't tell you more.

I have met the same problem as yours, I think the installer has some bugs, and a friend of mine got a worse situation: his hard disk information got lost after pressing install of the installer.

I have an AMD64 with 1024MB's of RAM. I am trying to do an networkless install from the live cd. After three hours though the installer shows no progress whatsoever. It still is 'working' and 'preparing installation'. Is this normal? How long should a install on my system take?

When I did my install on my notebook, I had the same issue. I was using the GUI installer. I left the notebook sitting overnight and the next day I was at the same place. I rebooted my system and used the "Command Line" installer and found that when I got to the "Network" step, I was recieving errors. So, I rebooted again and "Cancelled" when the installation asked me for my network configuration. (It was if I had bypassed that step. Apparently my eth0 card, RT8139 was not found for whatever reasons.) Once I "BYPASSED" that step, the installation was a breeze and took all of thirty to forty minutes to complete. There can be NO deviation from the LIVECD installation instructions if you are doing it without a network. I figured I will run the install one more time to fine tune it for my CPU, (Athlon-XP), delete some modules I don't need or want on start up, (if that is possible), and then take my system to a network where I can continue to update. But for now, right now, I have a 2006.0 Gentoo system up and running with Gnome. (I really don't want Gnome either. But it works and I can add Fluxbox once I get my network running.)

I hope this helps. Out of all of my "networkless" installs, this is the best by far.
