Whenever I try to emerge any package, I get a message saying
Code:
!!! Digest verification Failed:
!!!    /usr/portage/distfiles/netselect-0.3.tar.gz
!!! Reason: Failed on MD5 verification

I had been advised to clear the distfile, try re-syncing, etc. and none of it worked.

I just had the idea to try using mirrorselect to pick a different mirror, since maybe the one I happened to be using was corrupt. But when I tried to emerge mirrorselect, it failed on me! That was pretty much the last straw; I need help.

This problem is often caused by corrupted RAM (You should check that) or by an overclocked CPU.

Hello,

Thanks for your prompt reply. However, I'm in a bit of a bind: I can't emerge memtest86+ due to this very problem! Any ideas on what I could possibly do?

Think there're much LiveCD's coming with memtest86+ already installed (as far as I know knoppix got it). So get one and check your RAM.

Sino
