does anybody know if universal 2006 ppc version will install on a apple performa 64xx series??

i'm getting one soon and i think it has 8.5 or 8.6 somthing like that on it.

It may or may not, but I don't think gentoo is the release for that machine. You probably want a distro with prebuilt binaries. Try some debian variant.

You should be able to install on this, I'm fairly certain it's a PCI Mac. One thing to keep in mind with Gentoo is that it does require compiling everything from source which takes quite a while. If you do install on this machine, I'd recommend at least starting with the pre-compiled binaries (GRP). One final thing to be aware of, you'll need at least 64Mb of ram, many of these old machines have less than that. You can install with less, but you'll almost definitely run into problems. Finally, make sure that you keep MacOS installed if possible, Booting with BootX is much easier than with Quik.
