I installed gentoo yesterday in stage 3 and today I did a emerge -u world to get updated. Once finished I opened a new console and logged in as root with su and got the following error message:
Quote:
configuration error - unknown item 'FAILLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'LASTLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'MOTD_FILE' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'FTMP_FILE' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'ENV_ROOTPATH' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'PASS_MIN_LEN' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'CHFN_AUTH' (notify administrator)

and I wonder what just happend and how can I get rid of that.

Thx, Simplimus

This is only a guess, but did you remember to update your config (with etc-update, dispatch-conf, etc.)? That'd be the first thing I'd try, but of course you can't run those if you're not root. You could boot from the LiveCD, mount your drives, chroot into your installation (as per the install guide), and fix it that way. Like I said, it's only a guess.

ectospasm is totally right, I was having the same thing yesterday.

After etc-update it was fine again.
