Hi does anybody know how to get rid of this blockage ?

I've searched the forums and there was a few older threads about this. They said you have to set pam to your useflags. I have set this.

Code:
[blocks B     ] sys-apps/pam-login (is blocking sys-apps/shadow-4.0.14-r2)
[blocks B     ] >=sys-apps/shadow-4.0.14-r2 (is blocking sys-apps/pam-login-4.0.14)
[ebuild     U ] sys-apps/dbus-0.61 [0.60-r4] USE="X gtk python qt -debug -doc" 0 kB
[ebuild     UD] x11-libs/libwnck-2.12.3 [2.14.0] USE="-debug -doc" 0 kB
[ebuild     U ] sys-apps/shadow-4.0.14-r2 [4.0.14-r1] USE="nls pam -nousuid -skey" 0 kB
[ebuild     UD] gnome-base/gnome-session-2.12.0 [2.14.0] USE="ipv6 -debug -doc -esd" 0 kB
[ebuild     U ] media-libs/libdc1394-2.0.0_pre5-r1 [1.0.0] USE="X" 0 kB

What is also strange is that yesterday when I did the last "emerge --sync" only pam-login was blocking shadow now both seem to block each other.
I do hesitate to unmerge one or the other, because I don't want to get in the situation I cannot login anymore. So does anybody know how to get rid
of this without breaking system login.

Here is my "emerge --info":

Code:

Maybe run a quick search in the forums...
a brief look and I found 3 threads dealing with this same issue .. ;)
And some solutions...
You might like to browse these for an answer... (the search box is your friend)

EDIT: in case you are lost, I would follow ecatmur's suggestion:
ecatmur wrote:
emerge --buildpkgonly --nodeps shadow && emerge -C pam-login && emerge --usepkgonly shadow

Hey TheRAT,

first thanks to your links to the other threads.
Don't get me wrong, but I normally really hate it if somebody says to me to use the quicksearch. Because I do everytime before I post a new thread. And everytime I do write in my post that I have searched the forums.
This quick search forum gets me really angry now.
I did a quicksearch with "pam shadow block". You can try it by yourself and you will see the threads you suggested are not in the search results.
Anyway will try that and post if it worked.

cheers felice.

Hey..

I actually cheat a little with my searching: I use Google search instead...
In my firefox, I have the google bar extension installed, and one of the options is to enter a search term, and select "Current Site" which will search the current site I am on (forums.gentoo.org) with the power of google search..
I usually find a much more improved search, compared to (in my experience anyways) to the QuickSearch feature in the forums..

In any case.. post if your problem is not solved with the info I posted ;)

Hi,

thank you very much it worked without borking my login!!!!
But what is nearly more important is your tip with the google search bar. Really this is a good one and should go in "Documents Tips and Tricks".
This forum search annoyed me from the beginning, because it doesn't allow you to do advanced search terms.

Cheers Felice
