I'm sure this has been asked and answered elsewhere but the keywords I'm trying in both google, this forum, and the gentoo wiki don't seem to be pulling it up.

How do I get portage to show a list of installed packages? Ideally, I could get output like emerge -s in which it shows both the current version and the newest version available.

In the mean time, I seem to be relying on emerge -pvuD world but I'm sure there's a better way. Thanks

Ah! I was trying stuff like equery -l, equery --list, equery --list * but now I see that I simply misunderstood equery's syntax. Thanks

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads in favour of the FAQ that labba pointed out.
