Can anyone help me with what I need to have working wireless on iBook G4, gentoo2006 with integrated Airport ?
I need just to understand why after "modprobe airport" I don't have anything ?

I have compiled airport, hermes, orinoco kernel modules,
so Ethernet network works good,
but how to have wireless ?

I'm very angry with it - all other things are excellent but I can't find in google anything clear and understandable about wireless with airport on PPC.

Can anyone help me and just to explain all the steps I need ???
Do I need smth. special in kernel ? (pcimcia support must be on or what  ?)

I hope this doesn't sound insulting, but are you sure it's an Airport and not an AirportExtreme?
I think you might need the bcm43xx driver. What does lspci tell you?

mkdir /lib/firmware
echo "net-wireless/ieee80211softmac ~ppc" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
echo "net-wireless/bcm43xx ~ppc" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
emerge bcm43xx
wget http://openwrt.inf.fh-brs.de/~nbd/wl_apsta.o
fwcutter -w /lib/firmware wl_apsta.o

So, after all this hard-installation process, if you need wireless do the next:
modprobe ieee80211
modprobe firmware_class
modprobe bcm43xx

your 'iwconfig' must show now eth1 or smth. for Wireless !!!

Also:

(edit /etc/make.conf, enable PORTDIR_OVERLAY)
# mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/net-wireless
# emerge subversion
# svn co http://catmur.co.uk/svn/repos/gentoo/tree/net-wireless /usr/local/portage/net-wireless
# emerge -uav bcm43xx

The bcm43xx ebuilds in Portage are way out of date; I'm maintaining newer snapshot ebuilds, see https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-443034.html
