I just dont get the external working the way i want.

I only want to "clone" my laptop-LCD onto the external.
i tried every xorg.conf ... i found on this forum. Here is what i got:

1. On the external i get a clear view .... but on my laptop-lcd the screen flickers
(it seems that the option "MergedFB" causes this flickering)

2. A clear view on both screens, nearly perfect. But i miss the mouse-cursor on my external out.

3. 2 different screens .. so i am able to work on the one screen and watch a movie on the other ....

4. only tv-out. After starting the iBook and directly after the system-start-sound, close the lcd and bring it down to sleep. when a external monitor is connected it will be recognized by the openfirmware as main-screen when you wake it up. That way your laptop-lcd stays black, but you can see the boot-messages, terminal .... on a beamer .... without xorg.

I'm sorry, but your post is useless. To make any sense you must paste relevant configuration. Would you please show me your xorg.conf?

ok, more info ... iBook G4, february 2005, radeon 9200se

My external monitor is a lcd.

1) On the external i get a clear view .... but on my laptop-lcd the screen flickers

2) A clear view on both screens, nearly perfect. But i miss the mouse-cursor on my external out.

3) 2 different screens .. so i am able to work on the one screen and watch a movie on the other ...

What i want is a cloned mode, without flickering and with a mouse-cursor on both screens. I have no need for 3d-acceleration in cloned-mode.

The cloned mode is the default mode when using radeon driver on my ibook g4 1.2Ghz 12".
That means I get cloned mode using a normal xorg.conf for single screen (MergedFB is default to "on").

bz31, that does not work for me. When i take my single-screen config and add the mergedfb option, the laptop-screen is flickering .... , and nothing on my external ...

could you paste your xorg.conf ??

http://bb.zhang.free.fr/xorg.conf
(It's for debian, but I don't think xorg.conf is distro specific.)
