I am trying to install gentoo on a single processor G5 PowerMac and cannot get yaboot to work. Yabootconfig says it is unable to locate mac-fdisk so I edited my yaboot.conf myself. Here it is:
Code:
boot=/dev/sda2

ofboot=hd:2

device=hd:

partition=4

timeout=40
install=/usr/lib/yaboot/yaboot
magicboot=/usr/lib/yaboot/ofboot

image=/boot/vmlinux-2.6.15
   label=Gentoo Linux 2.6.15
   root=/dev/sda4
   partition=4
   read-only

When I run mkofboot -v I get the following error:

Code:
ioctl32(nvsetenv:7942): Unknown cmd fd(3) cmd(20007043){' '} arg(80808080) on /dev/nvram
mkofboot: hfsutils is not installed or cannot be found
mkofboot: Try --mount if Linux 2.6.15.3-G5 supports HFS

I'm stumped, any ideas?

I've got exactly the same problem :cry:
ybin -v used to work perfectly before today but now I have the same error message as you and I don't understand why...
Code:

ybin: hfsutils is not installed or cannot be found
ybin: Try --mount if Linux 2.6.15-gentoo-r1 supports HFS

- hfsutils is installed, I even re-emerged it
- the modules hfs and hfsplus are loaded
- I tried to compile these two modules directly in the kernel, not as modules, but it didn't change anything

I made an emerge -uD yesterday and it updated hfsutils, that's maybe why I have this weird problem...

My computer is this Ibook G4 : http://lowendmac.com/ibooks/14-142.html
If anyone has an idea.... :wink:

EDIT:
my /etc/yaboot.conf:
Code:
boot=/dev/hda2
device=/pci@f4000000/ata-6@d/disk@0:
partition=3
root=/dev/hda3
timeout=30
install=/usr/lib/yaboot/yaboot
magicboot=/usr/lib/yaboot/ofboot
ofboot=hd:2
enablecdboot

image=/boot/gentoo
        label=Gentoo
        read-only

I noticed that hformat, and pretty much everything else were magically missing from /usr/bin. I unmerged the latest version of hfsutils (released today I believe) and installed the old version. Things are back and hopefully working okay

A new build of hfsutils is out, and the problems seems to be fixed.
