I've just upgrade to sys-apps/pam-login-4.0.14 and every time I login (or su) to the system I get this message:
configuration error - unknown item 'FAILLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'LASTLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'MOTD_FILE' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'FTMP_FILE' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'ENV_ROOTPATH' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'PASS_MIN_LEN' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'CHFN_AUTH' (notify administrator)
The login process ends find and I'm in the system but this doesn't look good at all.
Any tips?
Thanx

Ok, so I perhaps foolishly ran that without reading the following link. Now I can't log in at all. At the login prompt I type "root", it pauses for about 10 seconds, then prompts for the username again. No password prompt.

I'm running stable everything - no ~x86. Tried init=/bin/sh (genkernel kernel) but it doesn't seem to work - boot goes all the way to login.

Lil help?

Have you tried booting off a LiveCD, chrooting into your system and emerging pam-login?

That would be the first place to start, I think.
