Trying to install on a G3 300MHZ B&W to be used as a server.

Stuck.

boot into open firmware (option+cmd+o+f)
> boot cd:,\\yaboot
> video=ofonly
"Please wait, loading kernel...
cd2:,\\video=ofonly: Unknown or corrupt filesystem
boot: "

Can not get around it?
Searched - could not find help. :x

Anybody?

Not entirely clear what your problem is. Any particular reason for booting the InstallCD from OpenFirmware? Are you having trouble with 2006.0? If so, there's a known issue that won't be fixed (https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=126421). Workaround is to enter ppc32 nodetect at the boot: prompt and load the modules manually (see https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-442693.html) or use a 2005.1 (or earlier) InstallCD.

Not to start any flame war.
Did not want to fiddle around too much.

Installed OpenBSD, server is running.
Thanks.

Use Gentoo and OpenBSD on my servers, doesn't really matter that much. GentooPPC seem to have a few issues with G3s currently and I was not goint to compile too much on that old box that I was going to install and update and old version.

Thanks for looking. :D

Using a 2005.1 InstallCD does not mean that you need to compile to get it up to date. You can use any linux distro to boot the machine, then install the 2006.0 stages. This includes old Gentoo releases.

Thank you, you are obviously right - I was not thinking logically.
