hoi guys!

when I first tried the vanilla-sources-2.6.16 (mostly because of the HFSX support) it screwed my sound. same with 2.6.16-gentoo, so I hoped, it's a bug that will be fixed in -r1
I used inkernel alsa compiled in for... well, since ever ^^
when it stopped working I tried modules and even the alsa-driver package, of which even the stable version won't compile (maybe because of gcc4.1 and glibc 2.4...)

well, some error stuff:
Code:

init-scripts:

* Unable to find any ALSA drivers. Have you compiled alsa-drivers correctly?

yes, i experienced some werid things too in what alsa refers. I dont know if you have a segfault in your logs, but i hit the same problem Ecatmur stated here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-446717.html

Maybe your problem too ?

Also, my previous config settings were not saved as they should when copying my old .config to the 2.6.16 build ( first time i see this in years).
Dunno why and didnt tried latest git, but triplecheck all is in place in your current config.

cheers

yeah, they restructured the config a bit, so the old .config won't work flawlessly

i2c-powemac is compiled in, I'm now building the powermac-DMA-sound thing as a module (was compiled in, too)
maybe that's it...

^^hy...

I have the same problem, too. The "/etc/init.d/alsasound" script means that no driver module is compile or can't find it.
lsmod says all modules are loaded, and now my question is...

How did you fixed it exactly ??? I use the 2.6.16-r1-gentoo-sources kernel and the rest work fine for me.....

^^during the upgrade from 2.6.15-r1, I had installed the alsa-driver package. But that result in many errors, so i unemerge it and took the kernel source.

^^does anyone has ideas for a sulution for me ???

regard
Jointy

you gotta disable PowerMac DMA sound
Code:
Device Drivers  --->
<*> Sound card support
< >   PowerMac DMA sound support
