Hi!

I screwed up my system and already started a thread in the portage & programming forum to find out how to repair this.

However, I would like to know if there is some kind of standard procedure that I can follow when my toolchain is broken?

I think of using a stage3 tarball and untar it onto my system to have a working gcc, portage and base utilities ... but I wonder if my package db or any other important things will be lost (and could be backed up before I untar the stage3 file)?

Thanks in advance for any pointers to corresponding howtos or other documentation!

Kind regards,
Heiko
