I just bought a mac 9800xt card to replace my 9600pro on my G5 running gentoo ppc64 linux(2006.0, 64-bit userland). The system worked fine until I started xorg-7.0: the screen blacked and the keyboard and mouse were not responding any more, so I had to shutdown the machine. The same X config worked well with 9600pro card.
I tried also ppc32 chroot on my system with xorg-6.8.2, it worked as expected. The last part of Xorg.0.log file is as follows:

(II) Setting vga for screen 0.

interesting.. I also saw this on my Quad 2.5Ghz Mac with radeon 9650 but thought it would be a local problem (you know.. some sort of quad issue).

My Dual 2,7GHz and Dual 2Ghz work just fine with a Radeon 9600. Seems like something is up with some card/chip versions.

Would you mind posting this issue to the linuxppc-dev mailing list? else I do so next weekend (or ealier, when I have some spare time). Also include things like "lspci -vv" (only part from video card, to keep the message small...) or "X -version" and "uname -a" to let those guys know what it is about.

Regards,

Markus

Well, someone informed me that the cvs version of xf86-video-ati driver could solve this problem. I tried the cvs and the 9800xt card worked.
