Hi all gentoo ppc user~~ I have a little question about vedio chat on ppc gentoo: Is there any solution for video chat with other platform(e.g. MacOsX, Windows, Other Linux)under ppc-gentoo.
I heard that, gaim will support video chat in the next primary release, and mercury also support video chat (MSN Yahoo).
Is anybody has any experience on video chat ?

It appears that gnomemeeting has been replaced by ekiga (http://www.gnomemeeting.org/).
Of course being Gentoo there is an ebuild although masked with keyword ~ppc.

From the FAQ:

Quote:
2.8. How can I test if it is working?

Simply get a free account at Ekiga.net and call the echo text at sip:500@ekiga.net. If you can hear and see yourself back, then your setup is working.

When I have time I will give it a try.

Couldn't resist. I emerged it and created an sip address and tried the echo test. It (the audio) went well with my usb headset.

Ekiga didn't find my web camera though and it does work with xawtv, YMMV.

I don't know if Ekiga would work for incoming calls without doing some kind of iptables stuff (as suggested in their FAQ). Also I don't have any Windows Messenger people to test it with.

Ekiga works for me with both audio and video when talking to 500@ekiga.net. Ekiga uses the v4l (Video 4 Linux) interface to talk to the webcam.

My one test so far with a Windows Messenger user has been unsuccessful -- he can't log onto ekiga.net, getting the following error:

Code:
You have been signed OUT of SIP Communications Service because that sevice has been temporarily shut down.  Please try again later.

He followed in the instructions here:

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnomemeeting-list/2006-February/msg00123.html

with Windows Messenger 5.1.
