Hi!

One of the first things I learned about Unix is: you'll find vi on every Unix machine. OK, when one installs gentoo, there's only nano. But where's the vi-ebuild? I've searched for it using
Code:
emerge -s vi

without success.

Cheers, Tobias

Try vim instead. It has a compatible option when it should act as vi.
But use with nocompatible: it's far more powerful.

Edit
BTW Duplicate thread of this: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=2230%2006
Always search before ask - it just works.

If you don't like vim or feel it's bloated (some people do, not me), 'ls /usr/portage/app-editors/ |grep vi' reveals a few other candidates
Code:
bvi
elvis
gvim
mlview
nvi
vile
xvile
