Hi

I have compiled the kernel fine pretty much a lot of times on this mac now. Since today i have been getting this strange error
Code:
 make clean
  CLEAN   arch/ppc/boot/images
  CLEAN   arch/ppc/boot/lib
  CLEAN   arch/ppc/boot/openfirmware
rm: cannot remove `arch/ppc/boot/openfirmware/dummy.o': Permission denied
rm: cannot remove `arch/ppc/boot/openfirmware/image.o': Permission denied
rm: cannot remove `arch/ppc/boot/openfirmware/coffboot': Permission denied
make[2]: *** [__clean] Error 1
make[1]: *** [arch/ppc/boot/openfirmware] Error 2
make: *** [archclean] Error 2

the same is the case if i try make. make modules in working fine though.

what's the issue??

thanks
Saurabh

are you root? If so, you may want to run fsck if it's available, then remerge the kernel sources. If not, you should be!

If you're root and getting permission problems, something's really messed up. Please shut down immediately and insert a recovery disk, fsck your filesystem, chroot your system and reinstall the kernel from your chroot. That would be the safest method.

[edit] Ah, could this be another victim of a slow and painful death by reiser4? I sure hope not!

This is reiserfs. A thing that i noticed is that the clock gets skewed after shutdowns. Could that be the culprit somehow??

Probably not, but after setting your clock, set the hardware clock with:
Code:
hwclock --systohc
