Code:
INSTALL sound/usb/snd-usb-audio.ko
INSTALL sound/usb/snd-usb-lib.ko
if [ -r System.map -a -x /sbin/depmod ]; then /sbin/depmod -ae -F System.map 2.6.15-gentoo-r1; fi
WARNING: /lib/modules/2.6.15-gentoo-r1/kernel/sound/oss/sound.ko needs unknown symbol virt_to_bus

When typing
make && make modules_install
I get the above error. I tried unchecking all oss options in the kernel config, then I get this error:

Code:
INSTALL sound/usb/snd-usb-audio.ko
INSTALL sound/usb/snd-usb-lib.ko
if [ -r System.map -a -x /sbin/depmod ]; then /sbin/depmod -ae -F System.map 2.6.15-gentoo-r1; fi

Please help. I can compile the kernel by just running make, and also can compile the modules also. Just this install step seems to fail. Thank you,

OSS is deprecated, don't use it. I never even tested compiling the modules on my G5...

you might want to start with a clean config by doing this in /usr/src/linux/: make g5_defconfig. This will give you a basic config which should work out of the box on your G5. (You might want to check if your root file system is compiled in and such things)

so here is what I would do:

Code:

$ cd /usr/src/linux/
$ make g5_defconfig
$ make menuconfig (check everything and take out some things you don't need, if you want to)
$ make -j3
$ cp vmlinux /boot/
$ cp System.map /boot/
$ make modules_install

this *should* work pretty well. :roll:

Regards,

Markus

you are not using vanilla 2.6.17-rc1, are you? (http://lists.debian.org/debian-powerpc/2006/04/msg00024.html)

Okay thanks now everything is going better! However, doing the make modules_install
goes okay but barfs at this one module:

Code:

INSTALL crypto/aes.ko
cp: cannot stat 'crypto/aes.ko' : no such file or directory
make[1]: *** [crypto/aes.ko] Error 1
make: *** [_modinst_] Error 2

Is this a needed kernel module? (Encryption?)

depends on your needs :wink:

but I guess you don't need that one. unfortunaly this " no such file or directory " should never happen... you are sure that "make" finished correctly? I guess that "make" did not finished (some error or something) and the module was not compiled.

markus
