Starting 2 or 3 weeks ago, I often get this message when I log in as user or go from user to superuser:

Code:
Password:
configuration error - unknown item 'PASS_MIN_LEN' (notify administrator)

I gather from a bit of googling that the line "PASS_MIN_LEN 5" in my /etc/login.defs file is meant to set the minimum length for passwords. However, it doesn't seem as if my system recognizes the meaning of that line. Also, my password is more than 5 characters long.

When I comment out that line in /etc/login.defs, everything is back to normal. However, after a few reboots, the line appears again in the login.defs file.

This doesn't appear to interfere with anything, but I'd like to be sure this isn't something that I should address immediately.
