I'ts a Powerbook G3 (333Mhz Lombard) I had gentoo installed (ppc) with xorg 6.8 so I tried to folow the upgrade guide on the wiki and ended up screwing everthing up (a buch of stuff was not there but portage thought it was) so I reinstalled (~ppc) and figured I'd end up with xorg 7.0. everything wen't fine, I didn't see any errors but when I try to startx with either my old xorg.conf (from 6.8) or a new one (from Xorgautoconfig) I get this

failed to load module "bitmap" (module does not exist, 0)

and the same thing with pcidata

I would usualy cut and paste the exact error but I can't figure out how to do that with gpm and a one button mouse.

It's probably your old xorg.conf containing paths that no longer are the same. Try commenting out the modules path and the RGB path. If that doesn't fix it, scp your xorg.conf to another machine and post it here.

So if anyone has ideas let me know :)

Code:
Section "Files"
   RgbPath      "/usr/share/X11/rgb"
   ModulePath   "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
   FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/misc"
   FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi"
   FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi"
   FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/TTF"
   FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/Type1"
EndSection

Section "Module"
   Load  "extmod"
   Load  "dbe"
   Load  "record"
   Load  "xtrap"
   Load  "dri"
   Load  "glx"
   Load  "freetype"
   Load  "type1"
EndSection

If you're using modular X, comment out the rgb and module paths by putting # in front of them.

I have the same problem, i am pretty sure that my xorg.conf is correct.

Code:

Section "Files"
#RgbPath      "/usr/lib/X11/rgb"
ModulePath   "/usr/lib/modules"
FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/misc/"
FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/TTF/"
FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/Type1/"
FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/CID/"
FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi/"
FontPath     "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi/"
EndSection

#Section "Module"
#Load  "record"
#Load  "extmod"
#Load  "dbe"
#Load  "dri"
#Load  "glx"
#Load  "xtrap"
#Load  "freetype"
#Load  "type1"
#EndSection

Any help would be really appreciated.

You didn't comment out the ModulePath
