I'm having a strange problem with text in most applications. It just started happening a couple days ago (possibly due to an upgrade?). What's happening is that text isn't shown until I move my mouse over it.

Screenshot of Thunderbird. The left pane should have many more labels and the message pane should be full:

Here is a screenshot of Firefox displaying slashdot.org:

Here is the same scenario after moving my mouse over a couple areas:

I'm running modular X. Any ideas?

Alright, it's fixed. It seems it was a problem with the latest modular X. I still had X unmasked because I didn't know it had recently been taken out of hard masked status. Going back to xorg-server-1.0.2-r3 and recompiling associated modules fixed it all up!

Hello
I have the same problem.
What modules are there ?
I don't know what I must recompile :(

Furthermore i have information from Xorg.0.log

"
(EE) No Input driver matching `mouse'
(EE) No Input driver matching `keyboard'
(WW) No core pointer registered
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "NVIDIA Event Handler" (type: Other)
No core keyboard

Fatal server error:
failed to initialize core devices

First you need to downgrade x11-base/xorg-server to 1.0.2-r3 then you need to recompile the following X modules:

x11-drivers/xf86-input-keyboard
x11-drivers/xf86-input-mouse

Moved from Desktop Environments to Duplicate Threads in favour of xorg-server-1.0.99.x ABI breaks nvidia/ati binary drivers.
