I am having some issues when it comes to compiling 2.6.16 on my powerbook.

I have tried gentoo-sources-2.6.16-r5 (twice failed), gentoo-sources-2.6.16-r6 (twice failed) & vanilla-sources-2.6.17-rc3 (worked)

When I attempt to run "genkernel all" on either of the two gentoo-sources listed above, I get to the following point, at which point have the following errors...
_____________________________________________________________
CHK include/linux/compile.h
dnsdomainname: Host name lookup failure
UPD include/linux/compile.h
CC init/version.o
LD init/built-in.o
LD .tmp_vmlinux1
arch/powerpc/platforms/built-in.0: In function `pmac_calibrate_decr`:
: undefined reference to `pmu_register_sleep_notifier`
make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1
* Gentoo Linux Genkernel: Version 3.3.11d
* Running with options: all

* ERROR: Failed to compile the "vmlinux" target...
_____________________________________________________________

Is anyone else having simmilar problems with either of these two kernel versions under a powerbook (mine is a G4 17" 1.67 5,9 if that makes a difference)

2.6.15-r8 is currently on my system allowing it to run just fine, however I would like to try out the inbuilt support for bcm43xx (2.6.17-rc3 doesnt boot on my system atm... unable to detect the harddrive as a valid boot device).

So, no big emergency, just wanting to verify whether this is a mess up on my end or something else...

By the way, I have the full genkernel log files from each of the runs that I have made saved.

add --menuconfig to your genkernel call and then manually add support for PMU Powermacs unter Devices->PowerMac Devices (or similar called). compilation will then work. i dont know if this is a kernel bug or genkernel bug.

Genkernel with the provided configs will only work with the versions that we've provided configs for (usually only the release kernel). It really is a better idea to setup a kernel manually using make pmac32_defconfig as the handbook suggests. That way, you get a configured kernel with all of the basics. You can then tweak that to better suit your hardware.

JoseJX means this:

Code:

$ cd /usr/src/linux
$ make pmac32_defconfig
$ make menuconfig //tweak things as you like.

(I mean: it is not 'make_pmac32defconfig', but 'make pmac32_defconfig' :) )
