Update: Recompiled for 2.6.17_c3, then back for 2.6.16-r5, problem disappeared.
It seems I've hit a snag in changing over to 2.6.16. mol starts fine, but while running OS X, my usb (mouse&keyboard) freeze. I wonder if this is a result of the usb changes in 2.6.16?

Looks like it may be related to the sound driver. Just ran startmol --test and there is no sound card found.

It works fine here. I'm currently using a 2.6.17_rc3 kernel, but it was working with 2.6.16 before. Are you sure it's not a configuration problem?

Sound is working as well as it did before, ok as long as I don't put it past 70%, distorted above that. The configuration files haven't changed for molrc.sound. Don't know what else it could be except the kernel. As long as I don't try to access the sound device from within mol, everything seems fine.

Which versions of alsa-headers/libs are you using? Can you check for a mismatch between the kernel alsa version and the installed libs/headers? Are you sure that you're using ALSA/OSS with appropriate support in your kernel/driver? I just tried it here and it's working fine with 2.6.17_rc3.

The headers/libs are both 1.0.11, kernel 2.6.16-r5 has the same configuration for sound as 2.6.14-r5. Here is the start for startmol --test

Okay. Are you using ALSA or OSS? What does /etc/mol/molrc.audio look like?

I'm using alsa, with oss emulation. The molrc.sound file is unchanged from the default.
Here are the sound modules loaded during startup.
Code:
snd_pcm_oss            46144  0
snd_mixer_oss          19584  1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_seq_oss            39516  0
snd_seq_midi_event      7232  1 snd_seq_oss
snd_seq                62576  4 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event
snd_seq_device          7756  2 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq
snd_powermac           47228  1
snd_pcm                93032  2 snd_pcm_oss,snd_powermac
snd_timer              23272  2 snd_seq,snd_pcm
snd                    62104  10 snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_powermac,snd_pcm,snd_timer
soundcore               9000  1 snd
snd_page_alloc          8840  1 snd_pcm

Well, I've installed 2.6.17_rc3 and although --test denies the existence of a sound card, sound works and mol doesn't crash. I'll reboot into 2.6.16-r5 and see if I can reproduce the error.
