Hello.
On a modern x86 machine at my job I am successfully (more or less :) using kdevelop.
Here on my small ppc I can't:
First I wonder that there is no K-Menu entry like on the x86 (there are several entries with profiles for C++, ...).
If I start kdevelop as user it starts, but starting a new project doesn't show templates but makes it crash.

Try reinstalling with USE="debug". I don't know why many packages in kde crash without this flag. I don't actually get any information as whatever crashed prior, stops crashing.

I was of the opinion USE="debug" just gives debug output. You mean it just stops crashing with this flag?
My x86 here has kdevelop without this USE flag. Is it a PPC issue?

I would guess that symbol information is included when debug flag is set, and that stops whatever the problem is.
I only have this issue on ppc.

With the USE flag "debug" activated kdevelop doesn't even emerge.

Can you post emerge --info? The problem is not likely there, unless aggressive CFLAGS.

It's probably a ram issue. Debug and kdeenablefinal both require more memory during compilation. I would suggest using distcc or compiling on a different machine entirely and installing the binary.

Get rid of ftracer in CFLAGS, also if you set -O2 to -O it will use less memory. But definitely remove ftracer. Listed as experimental by gcc.

This is the emerge failure with USE "debug".
I will try now with standard CFLAGS..please stand by :)

With
Code:
CFLAGS="-mcpu=750 -mtune=750 -O2 -pipe"
I get the same emerge failure. I think I will keep the -O2.
Remember it's because of the USE "debug". I will disable that again and emerge with the standard CFLAGS again.

Now I can't build kdevelop anymore at all. I disabled USE "debug" and took the old CFLAGS I was able to emerge it with before.

Thanks. I was able to emerge again without "debug" AND I'm able to create projects from templates.

Still there are missing the KMenu entries I know from x86 installation. They just start different environments for different programming languages. Is that important? Starting kdevelop I'm able to start any language project.
