I'm attempting to install Gentoo on a Rev2 Blue and White G3 400. I'm using a 2006.0 CD but I'm not getting very far. I'm trying to turn this box into a Gentoo only box so I'm using yaboot to load the install from the CD. I'm using the default ppc32 kernel provided on the cd. It runs through the section ok and seems to detect my hardware correctly as far as i can tell (which isn't that well unfortunately) then loads modules, activates udev and makes tmps for /newroot ok, but fails with:

Code:

Attempting to mount CD:- /dev/hda
Attempting to mount CD:- /dev/hda
!! Could not find CD to boot, somthing else needed!

!! the root block device is unspecified or not detected.
Please specify a device to boot , or "shell" for a shell...
boot() ::

if i try /dev/hda it tells me it is not a valid root device
I've typed shell and then done:
Code:

ls /dev
console null tty1

in the hope of finding something that might be useful but to be honest at this point I am somewhat out of my depth.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to get past this stage? I have googled a fair bit and checked the forums (though the search appears to be down or I'm not using it correctly?)

Thanks in advance.

It appears in the end it was the cd drive that was causing the problem for me, I swapped it for Sony CDRW that i had sitting about and tried again, and while the 2006.0 universal cd didn't work the 2005.1 version has now booted successfully.
