As far as i know .. that airport is not pcmcia .. therefore lspci shouldn`t list it .. but where to look ?

Hello,
I think you should be a little more precise. Since the G3 laptops use an 'airport' card while the G4 ones use the 'airport-extreme' card, it is impossible to actualy 'transfer' it from one to another. If you actually did that, I can assure you that there's no chance at all that you 'plugged it in' correctly. It won't ever fit.

well .. :) . .belive it or not .. :) .. it did fit .. :) .. and i think it fit perfectly . :) .. but somehow i dont see it .. :(
This G4 is one of the old ones .. it has 500Mhz cpu and 256 memory .. and i took from it an airport card ..
i have compiled 2.6.17 yestarday and i`ll try to bring it up using those .. orinoco, hermes and broadcom modules .. and then see what happens

but if anyone has any userfull advice .. for example .. how to see what airport I have .. ( i have put it in laptop and the side where is model name written is turned down so i can`t see it ..

10x in advance

modprobe airport
Code:

airport                 7104  0
orinoco                44628  1 airport
hermes                  8736  2 airport,orinoco
af_packet              20136  2

Code:

matrix playahater # iwconfig
eth0      no wireless extensions.

lo        no wireless extensions.

tunl0     no wireless extensions.

eth1      IEEE 802.11b  ESSID:""  Nickname:"HERMES I"
          Mode:Managed  Frequency:2.422 GHz  Access Point: Not-Associated
          Bit Rate:11 Mb/s   Sensitivity:1/3
          Retry limit:4   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
          Link Quality=0/92  Signal level=134/153  Noise level=134/153
Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:0   Missed beacon:0

matrix playahater #

is this correct ?

i don`t need to try broadcom or anything else .. right ? .. this thing works with airport, hermes, orinoco modules?

now what? .. what packages do I need in order to connect/search/make to some wifi network ..

10x in advance

Cheers

You seem to have the hardware part sorted out. Search around a bit in the Networking & Security forum for the network configuration questions you have.
