Hello.
I'm wondering about some of the mplayer useflags concerning my platform:
  • cpudetection : Enables runtime cpudetection:
    Do I need that? Maybe it is only used for precompiled binary packages.
  • dga : Adds DGA Support (Xfree86) (DGA=Direct Graphic Access):
    Does it work?
  • directfb : Adds support for DirectFB layer (library for FB devices)
    ?
  • live : Enables live.com streaming media support
    What kind of streaming is that? The URL doesn't tell about details.
  • real : Adds real video support:
    Eventhough I enabled it, it's not going to be used?
  • win32codecs : use win32codecs package for dll avi decoding support (wmv and what not):
    Does that work on PPC? It's not going to be used.
    There are some windows media sources I can't play, or it plays only sound, for example:
    Code:
    Connecting to server stream.n-tv.de[217.27.2.7]: 80...
    Cache size set to 8192 KBytes
    Cache fill: 19.92% (1671168 bytes)
    ASF file format detected.
    VIDEO:  [WMV3]  320x240  24bpp  1000.000 fps    0.0 kbps ( 0.0 kbyte/s)

    ==========================================================================
    Requested video codec family [wmv9dmo] (vfm=dmo) not available.
    Enable it at compilation.
    Requested video codec family [wmvdmo] (vfm=dmo) not available.
    Enable it at compilation.
    Cannot find codec matching selected -vo and video format 0x33564D57.

    AO: [alsa] 44100Hz 2ch s16be (2 bytes per sample)
    Video: no video
    Starting playback...

  • xvmc : Enables X-Video Motion Compensation support:
    It's not going to be used?

The stream you are trying to play is part of the win32codecs. I don't see why you wouldn't need it, a lot of media is in windows format.

It's an x86 binary. It won't work on PowerPC. The use flag is masked on ppc anyway.

# cpudetection:
Mostly used if you're going to move the binary between different CPU Types. On ppc, this mostly means altivec/non-altivec.
# dga:
xv is usually faster
# directfb:
Unless you're using DirectFB instead of X, you don't need this.
# live:
http://www.live555.com/liveMedia/
# real:
It can be, there are ppc real-player binaries and some work is in progress to support it with open libraries.

# real

You can find here http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/design7/codecs.html a link to download a ppc package of some codecs such as real (http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/all-ppc-20051120.tar.bz2)

An you have to hack (it is very dirt but it works ^^) the variable REALLIBDIR. With this correct directory, mplayer can find the real codecs at the correct place.

Code:
@@ -137,7 +137,9 @@
 KEYWORDS="alpha amd64 hppa ~ia64 ppc ppc64 sparc x86"

 pkg_setup() {
-               REALLIBDIR="/usr/lib/codecs/"
+       if use real && use x86; then
+               REALLIBDIR="/opt/RealPlayer/codecs"
+       fi
 }

#real:
realplayer is already working here. Is there any need for mplayer/real?

if you want that mplayer plays real video, I think you have to do that.
