hello all.
i have been trying to compile the -mm series kernel on an eMac 700mhz (rev. 1) ppc for quite awhile now and keep getting relocation errors (see here: http://ozlabs.org/pipermail/linuxppc-dev/2006-June/023346.html for my original post to linuxppc-dev). i was told that my ld -R was broken and that it should not be specific to my hardware, so i was wondering if anyone else here is seeing this? i am running a gentoo stable/unstable mix with:
gcc version 3.4.5 (Gentoo 3.4.5-r1, ssp-3.4.5-1.0, pie-8.7.9)
binutils version 2.16.1
can anyone help me to get an -mm kernel to compile? i can post my current 2.6.17-rc5 kernel config if it will help.
thanks for any suggestions or info on this,
nathanp.

ok, i think the blame has been taken shifted from ld -R to this:
- On some distributions, the PowerPC linker defaults to the elf32ppc
emulation rather than elf32ppclinux. This affects the start address,
among other things. Thus, specify the emulation explicitly.
That fixes compilation of 2.6.17-rc5-mm1 for me. This might be able to be marked solved now, I'll just give this a little more time to settle and be sure.
