Hi,

I just got gentoo compiled and running. I emerged windowmaker just fine. When I tried startx it borked and told me I needed vesa module. It also suggested that I run Xorg --configure. This generated a config file that complained that it couldn't find /dev/mouse and that corepointer couldn't be found. Has anyone else had trouble like this? I also tried emerging the synaptics driver as suggested by another user.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

emerge Xorgautoconfig and use that to create an xorg.conf configuration file.

This works, but my trackpad is still not working. X starts but I can't do much until I plug in a mouse. I emerged the synaptics driver but I haven't gotten that working yet.

Thanks for the fast help. These forums are amazing for us newbs.

I just went and read the ppc faq again and found this tip in there. Sorry for the dumb question, but thanks for the helpful answer.
