Did anybody manage to get Gnome/metacity's composite feature on Xorg 7.1 up and running? The HOW TO on the Gentoo Wiki is a little outdated I think (Xorg 6.8 ) and I couldn't find much information for PPC on that topic.

Is Metacity able to use the composite extension? I thought you had to use Compiz for that.

Apparently, metacity does support the composite feature: http://www.gnome.org/~davyd/gnome-2-14/images/compositing-manager-large.png, but when I open the metacity settings, this flag is missing. So I was wondering if there are special compile time flags or USE flags missing in my build.

However, if I simply run xcompmgr then I get the backdrop shadows just fine. Gnome ought to have that feature built in though, correct?

EDIT: Hum... the doc talks about the use of libcm, that might be what I'm missing?
