I am working on a new install 32ppc G3 mac. I followed the ppc manual.
Code:
  # mount -o bind /dev /mnt/gentoo/dev
 # mount -o bind /sys /mnt/gentoo/sys
 # chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
 # /usr/sbin/env-update && source /etc/profile

Very slow processor 233mhz. I cannot emerge vixi-cron, gentoolkit, gcc, pax-utils, etc. I get the emake error. I first noticed it with syslog-ng and thought it was a problem with it. I could emerge esearch, and pycrypto. i was able to emerge --sync?? I tried to update portage I get

Code:
Code:
  ERROR: sys-apps/sandbox-1.2.17 failed.
 !!! Function src_compile, Line 89, Exitcode 0
 !!! emake failed for default

I used as it sugested but added (quotes to make it work)
Code:
 FEATURES='-sandbox' emerge portage

and get
Code:

  !!! ERROR: app-misc/pax-utils-0.1.13 failed.
 !!! Function src_compile, Line 26, Exitcode 2
 !!! (no error message)

and furthur up I see
Code:
 >>> Source unpacked.
 make: invalid option -- J
 make: invalid option -- 2
 Usage: make [options] [target] ..

Code:
 creating ./config.status
 creating Makefile
 creating config.h
 make: invalid option -- J
 make: invalid option -- 2

seems to be where emerge is screwing up on all of them.

Try that with a lowercase "-j2" instead and see if it fixes your problem.

Code:
MAKEOPTS="-j2"
in /etc/make.conf solves it. server Accordian is humming away at the portage update and even got past sandbox ok!
NOTE to self: Big difference between a J and a j.
I had tried changing the J2 to a J1 because I thought that was where the prob was.
thank you
beers and cheers all around
