This is post install. I wanted to boot an older linux cd to use an older gcc version. So I added enablecdboot to my yaboot.conf. The C shows up in the menu on boot. When I press C the screen goes blank then puts me back at the yaboot menu. I press C again and the same thing happens. On the third try it hangs.

So I thought I had a duff cd. I burned another distro (first was YDL 2.1 second was a ppc knoppix disc), same thing. I haven't tried an OS X cd, but I have my suspicions this problem is only with yaboot and linux discs.

Anyone encounter this problem?

Regards,
Doug

Have you tried just holding C down on boot after the chime?

Yes, I should have mentioned that. When I hold down C after the chime I can hear the cdrom spinning up but then the yaboot menu displays anyway as if I wasn't pressing the key.

Well, that should always work. :( Try getting into Open Firmware (Apple + Option + O + F on boot). Then use boot cd:,\\tbxi to boot the CD. If this doesn't work, you've got other problems.

Openfirmware says it can't open file or device cd: So I tried cdrom:,\\tbxi which it seemed to recognize, but still just brought me to the yaboot menu. I have since tried OS X based cd's and they all boot fine.

Thanks,
Doug

You can try resetting the PRAM, (Apple + Option + P + R) on boot. Perhaps this will fix your problem. But otherwise, I suspect that the images aren't burnt correctly. Can you read the disks in OSX?

You're probably right that the disks are badly burned. I can read them both in Linux. I usually burn ISOs using Toast in OS X. This time I burned them with xcdroast and to be honest, I am not overly familiar with it. I'll try burning one in Toast and see if that's the problem.

It turned out to be badly burned cd's after all.

Thanks for your help,
Doug
