Not really sure if this belongs in PPC or install forum.

This actually may not even be PPC-specific, who knows.

I want to see whether I can get this installed on an IBM Intellistation POWER 285. I'm able to get to the boot: prompt, which is presumably yaboot.

After that point, though, I seem to have some issues (with the graphics card?). It actually boots all the way into a # prompt, but it's basically unusable because of the way the screen is scrambled. Basically the content of the screen is stretched vertically and interspersed with white horizontal lines, so that the stuff that's currently happening is far off the bottom of the monitor. I can type something in and then hit return a bunch to scroll the content up to where I can see it, but that's of limited usefulness. Is there anything I should try to get the right video driver loaded for the graphics card (IBM GXT4500P), or is something else going on?

The installation instructions http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-ppc64.xml?part=1&chap=2 say to try different boot options, such as radeonfb, rivafb, atyfb, aty128, and ofonly. I have tried all of these in turn as follows:

boot: ibmpower video=ofonly

but I don't know if that's the correct syntax, since it doesn't seem to make any difference. Anyone have any suggestions for things to try? It wouldn't have to be a boot option. If there were some way to change the display from the # prompt, that would be fine too. Note that the screen is fine until after

Please wait, loading kernel...
Elf64 kernel loaded...
Loading ramdisk...

then eventually goes blank, then I have the problems...

Any ideas?

Did you figure this out? I personally havent tested on that hardware but it *should* work and if it doesn't I would be happy to make you a custom CD to get it working. If you can get onto IRC on #gentoo-ppc64 one of us can see about helping you.
