Hi forums,

I installed gentoo on a powerbook G4 and quite everything works now. But X still causes problems.
I post some relevant files:
Code:
$(cat /etc/make.conf)
# These settings were set by the catalyst build script that automatically built this stage
# Please consult /etc/make.conf.example for a more detailed example
CFLAGS="-O3 -mcpu=7450 -mtune=7450 -maltivec -mabi=altivec -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -fno-strict-aliasing"
CHOST="powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
MAKEOPTS="-j2"
USE="gtk2 firefox gnome qt kde samba mp3 alsa dvd cdr usb"
LINGUAS="de"
SYNC="rsync://192.168.1.1/gentoo-portage"
INPUT_DEVICES="mouse keyboard"
VIDEO_CARDS="radeon fbdev vesa"

Code:
$(lspci)
00:10.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M6 LY

after emerging xorg-server + fluxbox I wrote xorg.conf with Xorgautoconfig --keymap=de

Code:
$(cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf)
# This file was generated by Xorgautoconfig v0.2.2.

Why not radeon in xorg.conf? I do not understand this issue, "(EE) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI capable". I get the same error with Driver "radeon" in xorg.conf.
The modules are loaded without error:

Did you try commenting out the line that reads
Code:
Load   "glx"

This will test if your X server will run without 3d graphics, and give us a better idea of where your problem may be.

That's really weird, your card should be detected as a radeon, not as fbdev. Can you paste in the output of Xorgautoconfig --dump?

There is something wrong with your X server, not your config. I copied your config word for word and ran it on my powerbook, replacing the "fbdev" line with "radeon" and it gave me the same "AIGLX: DRI module not loaded" error and that keyboard warning but X started regardless. Interestingly, I don't even have the fbdev module in my X server. The only VIDEO_CARDS= line in my make.conf is "radeon". I'm thinking you may have to recompile X...

EDIT: Here is my xorg.conf and make.conf, if they help.

You will probably have to change your resolution lines and your keyboard layout.

And here my other xorg.conf, a bit simpler and easier to understand, without 3d graphics support:

Looking at the --dump output, the OFFb driver should be changed to the radeonfb driver. Compile in only the radeonfb driver and it (Xorgautoconfig) should work automatically. I'm still not sure about your problem but, switching to radeonfb might fix it. Also, vesa isn't a valid video_card on ppc (it requires an x86 bios).

Does a little bofh f*ck my powerbook up?

I unmerged xorg-server and Xorgautoconfig. I sent all directories, where I suggest relevant files, to /dev/null, for example /etc/X11/ or /var/tmp/portage.
I only used VIDEO_CARDS="radeon" in /etc/make.conf
I emerged xorg-server. I emerged Xorgautoconfig.

I ran Xorgautoconfig, and I get the same xorg.conf with fbdev, I get the same errors. This is crazy! If I use fbdev as driver in xorg.conf, as suggested by Xorgautoconfig, X tells me, there is no driver, of course.

:evil:

When I said radeonfb, I meant to follow the FAQ and compile your kernel with only radeonfb. Sorry about not being clear.

Oh, so I misunderstood your posting. Ok, I exactly followed the FAQ and only compiled radeonfb into the kernel. Further I compiled xorg-server with VIDEO_CARDS="radeon". Now Xorgautoconfig gives me the following xorg.conf:
Code:

Please try adding Option "UseFBDev" "true" (or if that doesn't work, false) to the Device section.
