Hello everyone.

A while ago, my ibook was repaired and the keyboard was changed. Afterwards, the {<,>,\} key and the {½,§,¾} key were switched in gentoo. I remap the keys in X with

xmodmap -e "keycode 49 = less greater lessthanequal greaterthanequal backslash"
and
xmodmap -e "keycode 94 = onehalf section"

But I have to do this after every boot (tried writing various config files without succes) and it only applies to X. Can I somehow switch the keys for "the whole system"?

Thanks!

This really isn't a PPC issue; it should go to Desktop Environments.

But even so, a few approaches:

  • Put your xmodmap configuration in /etc/X11/Xmodmap.
If you run a Display Manager, such as GDM, KDM, XDM, then you need to configure it to load that modmap at initialization. For example, edit KDM file /usr/kde/3.5/share/config/kdm/Xstartup, to contain
    Code:

    xmodmap /etc/X11/Xmodmap
    true

  • Put the same xmodmap line in your ~/.xinitrc if you run X via startx
  • Configure GNOME or KDE to apply your .xmodmap, or custom settings, at startup. Look at the KDE Control Center or the GNOME Control Center.
