I've searched the forums and used google to try to find some help, but nothing really was what I needed. I sat in on #gentoo-ppc for a while, but to no avail. I'm trying to get a proper xorg.conf file for my powerbook. One thing that google did shed light on was Xorgautoconfig - however when I try to emerge it, it hangs on '==> PASV', or some login errors. After giving up on emerge for this, I found xorgautoconfig-0.2.3.tar.bz2 which I used wget to get. I've untarred the package and used 'make', but now I don't know what to do with it.

It'd be really helpful to get someone else's xorg.conf file, or some help figuring out how to get this Xorgautoconfig stuff to work.

It's on Gentoo's mirrors. If it's not downloading for you, then you probably have a bad mirror set in make.conf. I'd also be surprised if anything else is downloading properly. :p Anyway, if you do need to download a distfile, instead of trying to make the package yourself, you can download it and put it in /usr/portage/distfiles.

Code:

cd /usr/portage/distfiles
wget http://dev.gentoo.org/~josejx/Xorgautoconfig-0.2.4.tar.bz2
emerge Xorgautoconfig

The PPC FAQ (below) should help you get it working once you get Xorgautoconfig installed.

Good luck!

Wow, that was quick.

I expected the same sort of thing, but I emerged fluxbox with no problems.

THAT'S exactly what I needed - the information about what to do with the files after I had them. However, for some reason my emerge is looking for Xorgautoconfig-0.2.1.tar.bz2. I don't know what I need to update, but it seems like I'm using a dated distribution. I tried 'emerge world' but it said all my packages were up to day and that the GNU info directory was up-to-date.

@lolotov:

Sound like you need to sync your portage tree. The latest is 0.2.4-r1 .
Code:

emerge --sync
emerge -av x11-misc/Xorgautoconfig
